FAQ

Appliance repair questions from Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater, answered plainly

Most calls from Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater start with the same questions: how soon, how much, and whether we work on your brand. The answers are below, grouped by topic, with the pricing rule spelled out.

Booking and arrival

How do I book a repair?

Call the number on this site or send the request form with the machine, the brand and what it is doing. We reply to set a two-hour arrival window that suits you. The form works well for anything that can wait a few hours. For a refrigerator or freezer that is warming up, calling is faster, because those calls get priority for same-day windows.

How long is the arrival window?

Two hours. You will not be asked to keep a whole morning or afternoon open. If something on the schedule shifts, we let you know as early as we can. Early and late windows can be requested, which helps state workers, JBLM commuters and staff working shifts at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

How quickly can a technician get to me?

Cold storage comes first: a refrigerator or freezer that is warming up is booked into a same-day slot if one exists at all. Ranges, dishwashers, washers, dryers and ice makers usually land within the week, frequently the day after you call. After a big windstorm, when outage calls stack up across the county, food-safety calls still jump the queue.

Do I need to be home for the visit?

An adult needs to be there to let the technician in, hear the diagnosis and approve or decline the written price. For rentals, the tenant can open the door while the owner or property manager approves the price by text. Put pets somewhere secure and clear a path to the machine, and the visit moves along quickly.

The $99 diagnostic and pricing

What does the $99 diagnostic include?

The technician travels to your home, hears what the machine has been doing, and tests it with a meter until the failed part turns up. You hear what broke and what caused it, without jargon, and the repair is quoted as a single figure on paper. A yes folds the $99 into that figure. Decline, and you have paid $99 for an answer and owe nothing else.

Will the $99 show up again on the repair bill?

It won’t. Once you approve, the $99 is already one of the numbers making up the written total, so what you see on paper is what you pay. There is no second diagnostic charge and no separate line tacked on at the end. One written price covers the diagnosis and the repair together, and you see it before any work starts.

Can you quote the repair when I call?

Not with any accuracy, because the symptom does not name the part. A dryer that runs cold might need a thermal fuse, a heating element, a gas valve coil or nothing more than a cleared vent. Quoting before testing means padding the number or changing it later, and we would rather do neither. The meter finds the fault, then you get one written price.

What if the repair is not worth doing?

You will hear it from us. When a machine is worn enough, or the repair large enough, that replacing it makes more sense, we explain why in plain terms. The diagnosis costs $99, and nothing further is billed. Some people use that written diagnosis to decide what to buy next, or to show a landlord.

Machines and brands

Which appliances do you repair?

Six kinds. Cooling covers refrigerators, freezers and their built-in ice makers. Laundry covers dryers and washers, front-load and top-load alike. The kitchen adds dishwashers plus ovens, ranges and cooktops fired by gas, propane or electricity, wall ovens and glass-top or induction surfaces included. Keeping the list short means the truck is stocked for these machines, which is why many repairs finish in one visit.

Which brands do you work on?

Speed Queen laundry, Bosch dishwashers, and the big kitchen names: Samsung, LG, GE, Café, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and Kenmore. We are an independent service, not affiliated with any of those makers. If your machine is still covered by its manufacturer’s warranty, we tell you that before the diagnostic, so you can decide which route to take.

What don’t you repair?

Anything commercial is out, and so are water heaters, furnaces and other heating gear, garbage disposals, microwaves, wine coolers and freestanding ice machines. Those take different parts and different training. If you call about one of them, we will say so right away rather than send a technician who cannot help, and you will not be charged for asking.

Do you fix gas ranges and gas dryers?

Yes. Gas heats a large share of homes across Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater, so gas ranges and gas dryers come up often, and propane units are common on the rural edges. Typical faults are a weak igniter, a failed flame sensor or gas valve coils that no longer open. A gas smell means getting everyone outside, then phoning PSE or the propane supplier from there before anything else.

Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater

Which areas do you serve?

Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater, including neighborhoods from Cooper Point and the Westside to Hawks Prairie, the Lakes area, Bush Prairie and the Littlerock Road corridor. Nearby unincorporated parts of Thurston County are often covered too. When you book, give us the address and we will confirm it fits the schedule before the window is set.

Does Olympia’s soft water affect my dishwasher or washer?

It does. Olympia city water is soft, which means little scale but a real risk of overdosing detergent. Too much soap leaves suds in the washer and slowly etches glassware in the dishwasher. Cutting the dose often clears up cloudy glasses. When the haze stays, we look at the rinse-aid dispenser, water temperature and fill level.

Why does my dryer take so long in this climate?

Damp air and long vent runs are the usual reasons. Where a duct crosses an unheated crawlspace or attic, warm, moist air condenses inside it and wet lint turns to paste. Outside, moss and fir needles clog the vent hood. The dryer then runs hot and slow. We check airflow and the heating circuit, and point out which of the two is holding things up.

Can you help after a windstorm power outage in Lacey or Tumwater?

Yes. When PSE restores power after a windstorm, a surge or brownout can leave a refrigerator silent, a range display dark or a washer stuck mid-cycle. Before calling, reset the breaker and confirm the outlet has power. A machine that stays dead after that needs a visit. A warming refrigerator or garage freezer gets priority, and we test the control board and power supply before naming any part.

Question not here?

Call and ask. If the machine is not one of the six, you will hear that on the phone.
